As Director in Residence Andy oversees our acting tuition, student plays, Performing Arts Summer School courses and our extremely successful preparation for drama school auditions. (See our honours board!)
Andy has substantial writing, directing and acting credits as well as a background in stand-up comedy. His TV career includes roles in Peak Practice, House of Elliot, the Bill, Big Women, Very Big, Very Soon, Picking up the Pieces and Pulaski. Writing and adaptation credits include Puzzle Trail, Electric City, Claret Blues and Steven Berkoff’s True or False. Andy also shares in a BAFTA award for his writing and performance on five seasons of the award-winning Short Change for the BBC. He has also written and performed for radio shows such as Lenin of the Rovers and Week Ending with Alexei Sayle and John Sessions.
Andy is frequently invited to direct or run master classes at universities & drama schools and these have included LIPA, E15, Mountview, The London Studio Centre, Middlesex University and at the University of Nevada.
He has directed shows in London at venues ranging from the Battersea Arts Centre to the Young Vic and Soho's Arts Theatre. Andy also directs regularly at the Edinburgh Festival for venues such as the Assembly Rooms and the Gilded Balloon. Shows such as See Base of Can have won the coveted Edinburgh Fringe First award and many have included current or ex-students from Hurtwood.
Andy also works on language DVDs for publishing house Hodder & Stoughton.
