Drama At Hurtwood
"Hurtwood has the largest and most professional Theatre department of any school in the country, and has taken Drama to a standard previously thought unachievable at this level"
Theatre is at the heart of the Hurtwood community and every year the full range of performing arts – acting, singing and dancing – are showcased in a variety of high profile productions. Students work with West End designers, costumiers, musicians, musical directors, choreographers and lighting & sound engineers to produce shows of a truly professional standard.
The academic results are outstanding, the staff and the equipment are second to none, but more importantly the Hurtwood Theatre department is the perfect place for students to develop their potential both professionally and personally.
ACTING LESSONS
Hurtwood is very much in touch with theatre in the outside world and students benefit from working with visiting companies & guest tutors from stage and screen.
We prepare students for auditions, have long-established links with the major drama schools and have incredible success at getting students into those drama schools.

A-LEVEL THEATRE STUDIES
Over a dozen hands-on theatre practitioners challenge the students to work to professional standards in an atmosphere of creative collaboration. We have high expectations and a demanding workload, but offer the opportunity to perform with the best at the very highest level.
BACKSTAGE / TECHNICAL THEATRE
Students are encouraged to get involved and experience other elements of putting on a show, working behind the scenes on lighting, sound, set & costume design, scenic artistry, make-up, wardrobe, stage management and all the other elements that provide such vital support for the cast.
Ex students have gone on to work in the business all over the world including Hollywood special effects model making, operating sound for the Blue Men group, and stage managing Sooty's live show!
