Ezra Hjalmarsson (Theatre Staff)

Born in Sweden, Ezra trained at Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris and then formed Talking Pictures, an award winning physical theatre company which toured throughout Europe. As a freelance director his work includes The External for the Theatre Royal Bath with Prunella Scales & Timothy West , My Native Land for the Lyric Hammersmith, the award winning Cul-de-Sac and Theatrum Anatomicum for Sub Teater of Holland, a National Theatre production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Horses for Courses with Peepolykus, The Condition of the Virgin, God & Adam, and Hitler Sells Tickets by Boothby Graffoe, The Dead Move Fast by ex-Hurtwood student Paul Sellar and The Steppe Brothers for Rejects Revenge. He also directed The Beautiful Man From The Sea and Orlando Gough for the Welsh National Opera, worked as acting coach on L’Amore Industrioso for Holland Park Opera and produced Demons & Dybbuks at the Young Vic.
He acts in short films in his theatre lecture demonstration Theatre Moves and recently appeared at the New Hampstead Theatre in The Dead Fiddler. He has taught master classes and directed projects at E15, Middlesex University, Manchester Met, Arts Ed, Wolverhampton University, LIPA and for the English Touring Theatre.
Ezra’s play ‘Are We Driving Ourselves Crazy?’ was recently broadcast on BBC Radio 4.
