James trained as an actor specialising in mime and circus skills and spent six years working at Hurtwood House during the 1990s. In 2000 he disappeared to Scotland where he spent seven years at the Univesrsity of St Andrews studying psychology, researching neural networks (don’t ask) and lecturing in statistics. Whilst in Scotland James also founded Eyeball Theatre, a company specialising in contemporary adaptations of Elizabethan plays. Eyeball Theatre has toured extensively around Europe and won a Total Theatre Award at the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2004 James was awarded the McEwan Roseball award, given annually by the Crawford Arts Centre in Scotland to those whose theatre work is seen to benefit the wider community.
Having escaped his Scottish laboratory, James has now returned to Hurtwood and teaches both Theatre Studies and Psychology. James is a member of the British Psychological Society and the Royal Society of Medicine, but more importantly he is an alumnus of Hurtwood House.
