PERFORMANCE
Hurtwood attracts a vast amount of musical talent because of the outstanding opportunities it affords. Elaborately staged concerts and musical showcases give singers and instrumentalists the opportunity to perform in front of audiences which often include agents and record companies. Industry professionals abound and their experience brings a cutting edge to both the teaching and the performing. Students are given every chance to explore their creative talents and are constantly challenged to improve in this dynamic environment.
MUSIC TECHNOLOGY
Academically, the school's focus is on Music Technology. We have one of the best-equipped and highest performing departments in the UK, with four purpose-built Pro Tools based digital recording studios, equipped to a professional level with industry standard sound-proofing, acoustically-treated walls, floating floors and magnetically-sealed doors.
There is also a dedicated MIDI/Audio editing suite with its own network running Pro Tools and Cubase software. Here students can develop their composing and arranging skills whilst learning to use industry standard software.
Students also have the opportunity to hone their skills as part of the professional sound crew for productions, which includes working on everything from Sound Design to operating the Front of House mixing desk.
THE HURTWOOD ALBUM
Performance and technical skills are joined together in the Hurtwood Album. Students collaborate to produce a CD album of some of the best Hurtwood can offer. Listen to examples in our Music Gallery.

PRIVATE MUSIC LESSONS
More than a hundred of our students take instrument and
singing lessons. Many of them write and perform their
own material and plenty of musical careers have started
here (including that of one famous Oscar winner).
