PURPLE MELON IN PLANET OF THE APES

Puple Melon, LA rock band featuring ex-student Tom Hill have just got their song "Kings of the World" onto the soundtrack of the new Rupert Wyatt Rise of the Planet of the Apes film, released in August.

AWARDS AND ALBUMS

Metal band Rise To Remain, featuring Austin Dickinson, go from strength to strength. Their tune 'Nothing Left' won MUZU.TV's Fight Club song competition by 100% and has also been named their video of the day.

Kirsten Mackay is broadcasting as a Radio DJ on Exite Radio, "the number
one station on the Costa Blanca for the best mix in music and chat anywhere".

This week's Kerrang issue features a list of the 'Fifty Greatest Rock Stars In The World Today', and our very own Austin Dickinson, from the band Rise To Remain, made it to No.41!

BARBERSHOPERA BROADCAST

Barbershopera, featuring Rob Castell, could be heard being interviewed on the digital radio station Jazz FM on Thursday September 1st on the 6pm Peppermint Candy Show. Rob says “We had a great time there.”

Rise to Remain, metal band featuring Austin Dickinson, is getting great reviews for their new release, City of Vultures. This month's issue of Rock Sound Magazine includes a 2 page feature on them and gives the album 8 out of 10, while Q Magazine review gives it 4/5. Well done guys.

LIVE IN ITALY

Beatie Wolfe sent us this link from her live acoustic performance at last's
week's concert in Rocca di Campiglia, Italy. Beatie performed in front of an audience of 500 in the magical setting of Campiglia's medieval castle, set at the top of the hill.
And see her perform in a free gig on Sunday September 11th at Proud, Camden at 8.30pm.

GOOD FOR ADRIAN

Hurtwood drama teacher Adrian Rawlins has taken a sabattical to play the lead
role of Halder in the new Manchester Royal Exchange production of Good. The show runs from October 12th to November 5th. He says he's looking forward to the challenge and we wish him luck.

REGIONAL FINAL FOR NAOMI

Naomi Oforiokuma is through to the regional final of the Open Mic UK singing competition, and will be performing for judges from National Radio One, BBC Introducing, Regional Press & record labels as well as the general public, in the hope of making it to the the National Showcase Grand Final at The O2. Go and support her at the Beck theatre in Hayes on Sunday 9th October.

MALAYSIAN OPPORTUNITIES

Sabrina Saw is busy organizing Malaysia’s largest animal welfare charity event ever, The Pet Project, in association with Zoo Negara & The British School of Kuala Lumpur.
Sabrina’s plan, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, is to use the power of positivity and do something active to draw attention to animal welfare by doing a 12-hour “Get Active” marathon of dance, fitness & sport-based classes.
Sessions planned include Tony Stone, choreographer to Chris Brown, Mary J. Blige and Salt n Pepa and the Tottenham Hotspurt Football Club Training Academy.
She says she’s “very happy to have the government’s support behind it,” but is “scrambling to raise another RM36k (£7.500) so if you happen to know anyone who feels generous...;) wink wink”.

EMILY ANDREWS HAS SINGLE RELEASE

Emily Poppy Andrews has relaunched herself as singer/songwriter Moya, with a debut song Telling Tales. Even better, she has been colaborating on the song's video with fellow Hurtwood alumni, award winning video director, Bella Emck.
